First Sunday of Advent

Blessed Holy Days to All,

I hope this post finds you all well and in the company of family and friends. I know for me, having Judah (and company) home for the Thanksgiving break was wonderful, but my mother’s absence was undoubtedly felt. Nonetheless, it’s always good to pause and count our blessings in a spirit of gratitude.

To that end, many thanks to those who participated last Monday in the decoration of the church. The sanctuary looks lovely and is ready for us to celebrate the First Sunday of Advent. Tomorrow, Sunday, November 30th during our Lord’s Day Worship Service, we’ll light the first candle of our Advent Wreath–the Candle of Hope. As usual, fellowship will follow.

For those interested in joining in our yearly Jesse Tree Devotions, it’s starting on December 1st. You can print them out yourselves or pick one up at the church (see Jason for the packet). Here’s the printable pdf: Jesse Tree Ornaments-CPC

Christ the King Sunday

Hey Everyone!

I hope you are all well in your respective necks of the woods. Here in Lake City, it’s feeling a little bit more like winter is finally upon us. You might not realize it, but we’re also in the midst of another season change–a liturgical one. It’s really hard to believe that Advent is just around the corner–10 days and counting! Not only will we celebrate the first Sunday of Advent next week on November 30th, we’ll also be celebrating communion and having our first-Sunday-of-the-month potluck. More information about that special Sunday in next week’s email.

Until then, don’t forget to join us for our Lord’s Day worship this Sunday, November 23rd at 10:00am in the CPC sanctuary and on Zoom. This Sunday our paraments turn white to mark Christ the King Sunday (a.k.a. Reign of Christ Sunday). Join us after worship this week for a special time of fellowship.

Monday Games Up Here and our Wednesday Bible study will both return on the week of Monday, December 1st and Wednesday, December 3rd respectively.

And, that’s it for this week folks. Here is your link and the order of worship for this Sunday’s service:

Twenty-Second Sunday of Ordinal Time

Hello Everyone!

I hope you are well this evening. As many of you know, we’re in Columbus, Ohio for my mother’s funeral. Her service is tomorrow Friday, November 14th at 10:00am EST/8:00am MST. For those interested in viewing the service, you can connect via the provided Zoom link below. Additionally, you can read her obituary here: https://www.dignitymemorial.com/obituaries/gahanna-oh/jean-santos-12598973

Although I won’t be back for this Sunday’s worship service, know that I will be with you in spirit. Lyn Lampert will be leading the service and preaching, with help from our elders (and Amy naturally). Thank you to all those who are helping with the service this week.

Next week there will be no games on Monday or Bible Study on Wednesday. Our weekly gatherings will resume the week after Thanksgiving.

Twenty-First Sunday of Ordinal Time

Hey Everyone,

I hope you are all well on this chilly Friday afternoon. It’s been a strange week for me and my family as we’re adjusting to life without my mother in our home. Thank you for the many kind words, cards, prayers, and space to be able to process her life and death over the past week. We truly appreciate all of you.

Join us this Sunday, November 9th at 10:00am for our Lord’s Day Worship Service for the Twenty-First Sunday of Ordinal Time. Fellowship will follow the service in Darley Hall with cookies and coffee.

There are NO Monday night games or Wednesday night Bible study this week. We will return to our regularly scheduled gatherings the week of Monday, November 17th.

Many of you have asked about our plans for my mother’s funeral. Her funeral service and gravesite burial will be on Friday, November 14th at 10:00am. I will be broadcasting the service portion of the funeral via Zoom, but not the gravesite burial. I’ll send a Zoom link for the service in my email for next week. For those who have inquired about sending flowers, please direct them to: Schoedinger Margarum Funeral Home at 1051 E Johnstown Rd, Gahanna, OH 43230.

Twentieth Sunday of Ordinal Time

Hello Everyone,

I hope this post finds you all well and in good spirits. I’m aware that the news is spreading fast in Lake City, but for those who don’t know, my mother, Jean Marie Santos, died last night shortly after 11:00pm. Somewhat poetically, two years ago on October 31, 2023, I drove into Lake City with my mother for what was supposed to be a month long holiday visit. For two years, we’ve witnessed her steady decline from vascular dementia. No doubt, it has been a challenging journey for my mother and our family, but it is one that we will never forget or regret.

It was her deepest desire to die at home in her bed, and by God’s abundant grace and faithfulness, we were able to honor that desire. Thank you so much for the many ways you have welcomed my mother and supported my family during this season. We will be forever grateful. In the end, we’re rejoicing that my mother is free from the brokenness and pains of this world and in the eternal presence of our Savior.

Speaking of God’s presence, this Sunday, November 2nd is All Saints Sunday. It’s that special Sunday when we celebrate the saints past and present. To that aim, this Sunday, with Christians around the globe, we’ll celebrate the Lord’s Supper together. If you’re joining us via Zoom, don’t forget to bring your communion bread and juice to the broadcast.

Then, immediately following the service, we’ll move into Darley Hall for our first-Sunday-of-the-month potluck. This Sunday, our theme is Thanksgiving. Feel free to bring your favorite thanksgiving side or something you’ve been longing to try out and join us for this special community meal.

Given my mother’s death, I’m going to cancel Monday night games this coming week and the Wednesday Bible study. Thanks for the flexibility and support.
