Sixth Sunday of Easter

Hey Everyone,

I hope all of you are well and in good spirits. It’s been an exciting week as we begin to prepare for the return of our summer residents and the anticipated tourist season. We’ve got all sorts of things planned for this summer and in a couple of week you’ll be getting your CPC Summer Schedule, filled with lots of opportunities for connection, spiritual formation, and service.

Speaking of service, for the next two Saturdays (starting tomorrow) we’ll be working on the grounds of the church getting it ready for the summer. Tomorrow specifically, we’ll be working on the Annex yard getting the Hiker Center ready. We’ve got a pallet of mulch to spread and 40 bags of hummus and peat to integrate into our garden beds. If you’re available, stop by the Annex tomorrow between 9am and 12pm and lend a hand.

This week is the Sixth Sunday of Easter and the preaching text for this week is John 14:23-29. You can find it and the other lectionary texts here or at the bottom of the online Order of Worship. We’ll be having fellowship tomorrow after service, so if you’re in town, plan on joining us.

Here are your announcements for the week:

Blessed Good Friday

Good afternoon all,

I hope this post finds you all well on this Good Friday. It’s hard to believe that Easter is only a couple days away. Tonight, however, we’ll observe this holy day through our Tenebrae Good Friday service, where we’ll be hearing the final seven words of Christ alongside a selection of Taizé chants. The services starts at 7:00pm and will be in the sanctuary. This service will not be offered on Zoom.

This Sunday, we’ll be joining with the rest of the Lake City churches for our Community Service of the Resurrection. There are several other ways you can participate as well.

Here’s the schedule of gatherings for this Sunday, April 17th.

Sunrise Service at St. James Episcopal Church, 8:00am
Community Breakfast at the Baptist Fellowship Hall, 9:00am
Service of the Resurrection at the Lake City Public School, 10:30am
Easter Mass at St. Rose of Lima Roman Catholic Church, 3:30pm

The Service of the Resurrection at 10:30am will be broadcasted through a Zoom link. The link for this service can be found below.

There will be no gatherings or activities (games or Bible study) offered this week. Be on the look out for the electronic survey about our summer season together and the upcoming sermon series, This is Our Story, This is Our Song. And that’s it for your announcements this week folks.

Palm Sunday

Hey Everyone,

I hope this post finds you all well and in good spirits on this final Friday before Holy Week. Although our regularly scheduled gatherings are cancelled, for those in Lake City, there are plenty of opportunities to observe Holy Week. Although I will post this information again, I’ve included the schedule for Holy Week at the end of this communication.

This Sunday is Palm Sunday… and as such we’ll have live palm reeds for those attending the worship service on Sunday. For those who might not be joining us for the service, I’ll leave the remainder of the palms in a bucket in front of the church. If you’d like one, please swing by the church on Sunday (starting at 12:00pm). This week’s lectionary readings only offer a Psalm and a Gospel reading, the latter which will be the preaching text this week. You can find them both here.

Here are your announcements for the week:

Fourth Sunday of Lent

Good afternoon CPC and friends,

I hope all is well in your neck of the woods. It’s been a gorgeous day here in Lake City and spring is definitely in the air. No doubt it has me in the mood to clean and get ready for the summer.

Some exciting news to share… we’ve finally acquired our espresso machine and grinder for our hiking ministry at the Annex. In part from a generous grant from the Pioneer Jubilee Women’s Club, we were able to outfit our budding ministry with the gift of great coffee. I’ll be sharing more about the Hiker Center and what’s to come this summer as the weeks unfold. But for now, just know I’ll be playing barista on the new machine tomorrow at fellowship tomorrow (and I’ve made italian biscotti too). 😉

This Sunday, March 27th we’ll gather for the Fourth Sunday of Lent. The preaching text for Sunday is Luke 15:1-23, 11b-32, the well-known parable of the Prodigal Son. You can find it and the other lectionary texts here.

Third Sunday of Lent

Hey Everyone!

Good evening and Happy St. Patrick’s Day! I hope that you were all wearing some green today and remembering the significance of the Irish people for the Christian faith. For those who don’t know, the Irish played a critical role in preserving sacred documents from devastation brought on by the Hun invasions (and other Germanic tribes), culminating in the fall of the Roman Empire.

This Sunday, March 20th we continue on our journey with the third Sunday of Lent. Celeste will be back (hurrah), and the preaching text for Sunday is Luke 13:1-9. You can find it and the other lectionary texts here.

Beyond those updates, don’t forget that from 9-12 tomorrow, Friday, March 18th, I’ll be hosting an open scarf session at the Annex.
