Fifth Sunday of Ordinal Time

Hey Everyone,

I hope this post finds you all well and in peaceful spirits. Once again, I’m writing you at the end of a somewhat crazy, not overly peaceful week. Nonetheless, we find ourselves on the eve of another Lord’s Day. Join us tomorrow, July 20th at 10:00am in the CPC yard and on Zoom for the Fifth Sunday of Ordinal Time. During tomorrow’s service, I’ll be preaching on the fruit of the Spirit of patience. As usual, fellowship will follow directly after the service.

Tomorrow evening, we’ll host our third trail hiker dinner at 5:30pm in the Trail Hiker Center. Tomorrow’s theme is Asian and we’ll be serving up the famous Thai dish Pad Thai. If you don’t know what to bring, just bring any side, salad, or dessert and join us for another epic hiker meal.

This week there are a number of Christian education and formation offerings. Consider attending one of these gatherings:

Jesus & Women Series
Taught by Linda Pavich
Wednesday, July 23rd at 2:00pm in Darley Hall

Sin: It’s Not What You Think It Is Series

Thursday, July 24th at 6:30pm in the Sanctuary

Sharing Your Faith

Consider joining us for Games Up Here on Friday, July 25th from 7:00pm to 9:00pm in the Trail Hiker Center. All are welcome. No experience necessary. And don’t forget that our Hiker Prayers with Taizé Chants are on Saturday, July 26th at 8:00pm in the Trail Hiker Center. The prayers last about 30 minutes and are a great way to end your week.

Fourth Sunday of Ordinal Time

Hey Everyone!

I hope this past week has been filled with an uncommon joy and the presence of the Holy Spirit in your lives. For me, it’s been an incredibly busy week, but yet still filled with notable moments of joy. This week during the Sunday sermon, we’ll turn to the next fruit of the Spirit: Peace. Join us tomorrow morning, Sunday, July 13th for our Lord’s Day worship service at 10:00am in the church yard. Additionally, please consider joining us for a time of fellowship with coffee and cookies directly after the service.

If you’d like to order a print with the graphic from this Fruit of the Spirit sermon series, please see the sign up sheet directly under the print in Darley Hall.

For the past few weeks, I’ve mentioned an upcoming financial seminar here at CPC. Well, it’s finally here and I’m thrilled to share that our Faithful Financial Planing “minicon” will start tomorrow afternoon at 2:00pm with our first session on Navigating Market Volatility Using A Value Based Investment Philosophy. Three other sessions will be offered over the next few days (Monday at 10:00am and 2:00pm // Tuesday at 10:00am). For more information, check out the attached information sheet or the insert in the bulletin tomorrow morning.

Then, tomorrow night July 13th, we’ll celebrate our second trail hiker dinner at 5:30pm in the Trail Hiker Center/Annex. The theme for this week is tropical, island, cuban fare and we’ll be serving up some Cubano sandwiches with our new panini grill (thanks PJWC!). Don’t forget, the new shift schedule with all the available openings to host is posted every Sunday morning.

Also, don’t forget that we’ve moved our regular Wednesday night Bible study to Thursday nights! This Thursday, July 17th, we’ll begin our new education/formation series on SIN. Join us at 6:30pm in the CPC sanctuary for this three-week series on this controversial and often ignored doctrine.

Coming Soon! On Wednesday, July 23rd, CPC ruling elder, Linda Pavich will begin leading a video study series from Kristi McLelland called Jesus & Women: In the First Century and Now. The series will last six weeks and take place in Darley Hall at 2:00pm. To order your copy (which not necessary to participate in the study), click here.

Game Up Here is happening on its new night this week–Friday, July 18th in the Trail Hiker Center from 7:00pm until 9:00pm. Join us for some tabletop games!

Finally, this coming Saturday, July 19th, we’ll begin our Hiker Prayers at 8:00pm in the Trail Hiker Center. Join us for a contemplative and peaceful time of sung prayers using the chants from the Taizé Community.

That’s it for this week folks. Below you’ll find your links for tomorrow’s worship service, the new Thursday night teaching series, and the order of worship and Faithful Financial Planning information.

Don’t forget that we won’t be meeting in the CPC yard for our Sunday Worship Service this week. Instead, we’ll gather with the other churches of Lake City for our Summer Community Worship Service. The service will begin at 10:00am in the soccer field, this Sunday, July 6th. This a BYOC gathering so don’t forget your chair.

Later Sunday evening, July 6th, we’ll gather at the Trail Hiker Center at 5:30pm for our first hiker dinner of the season! This week we’ll be serving up local elk street tacos, so break out your best Mexican/Tex-Mex/Southwestern fare and join us for an incredible night of food, fellowship, and hikers.

Next, Wednesday, July 9th we’ll have our July Session meeting at 10:00am in Darley Hall.

Additionally, on Wednesday evening, July 9th, we’ll be having our regularly scheduled Bible Study at 5:00pm in the Annex Trail Hiker Center. This will be our final week for our Gospel of John series and we’ll finish of the book with chapters 19-21.

Coming Soon! Mark your calendars!
I’m excited to announce that in a couple weeks, we’ll be offering a Faithful Financial Planning MiniCON. The conference will begin on Sunday afternoon, July 13th and end Tuesday afternoon, July 15th. It will feature two guest speakers: Bruce Kendrick is a financial wealth advisor for Frontier Investments and our advisor for CPC’s endowment fund. Joseph Moore is the regional associate for the Presbyterian Foundation, the financial and investing agency of the PC(USA)’s national offices. Four seminars will be offered (Sunday at 2:00pm, Monday at 10:00am and 2:00pm, and Tuesday at 10:00am) over the course of the conference and lunch will be provided for those who RSVP (please do so by registering in Darley Hall).
