Palm Sunday

Hey Everyone,

I hope you are all well and enjoying the lovely weather here in Lake City (sorry to those of you in the Texas heat, you’ll just have to come back sooner). I’m writing you today from 20,000 feet on my flight to Denver. Ahhh… the joys of modern technology.

This coming Sunday is Palm Sunday, which begins our journey into Holy Week–the final week of the Lenten season. This Sunday, March 29th, we’ll gather together with the other churches of Lake City for our Community Palm Sunday Service. It will be held at the First Baptist Fellowship Hall and will begin at our normal time for worship–10:00am. We will be broadcasting the service for all our online friends. The Zoom link for the service and the order of worship can be found below.

For those attending the service in person, please plan on staying after the service for a time of ecumenical fellowship with coffee and cinnamon buns (graciously donated by the Country Store). In addition to preaching the sermon, I’ll also be leading the folding of the palms after the service, so don’t leave until you have a chance to enjoy the refreshments, fold a palm into a cross, and connect with other Christians in our community.

The Holy Week Schedule can be found below and is also in the downloadable online order of worship. This year, I decided to take a break from our showing of The Passion of the Christ, but we will be having our final session of the Bible Study on the Beatitudes on Spy Wednesday, April 1st. Join us at 5:00pm that evening for an exploration of the Gospel of Luke’s account of the Beatitudes.

One more important announcement, if you are planning on joining us for our Sacred Meal of Remembrance on Maundy Thursday, April 2nd, please physically sign up on the sheet on the bulletin board in Darley Hall or text me and let me know. RSVP by Monday, March 30th. Space is limited, so please do not delay.

That’s it for this week folks. Below you can find your links for the Community Palm Sunday Service and our final session on the Beatitudes and the order of worship for Sunday.

Fifth Sunday of Lent

Hey Everyone,

Happy St. Patrick’s Day! I hope everyone is doing well and in good spirits on this special day when we celebrate the patron saint of Ireland. I don’t know about you, but it’s hard for me to believe that we’re already approaching the Fifth Sunday of Lent for this year. It’s gone fast and the Easter season is just around the corner.

That said, there are still a few more weeks of this Lenten season. I trust that these holy days have been filled with reflection and preparation for many of you. Before we know it, the summer season will be upon us and we’ll be back in busyness of the ordinal season. Until then, we’ve got some important gatherings coming up, so please read through this update carefully.

Tomorrow night, Wednesday, March 18th, we’ll have our third Bible Study session on the Beatitudes. Join us in person in Darley Hall and online as we explore the second set of blessings from Matthew’s account of the Sermon on the Mount. The study starts at 5:00pm and lasts about 90 minutes. If you’ve missed the last two sessions you can find them on our YouTube Channel.

This coming Sunday, March 22nd, is the Fifth Sunday of Lent and we’ll gather together at our usual time (10:00am) for our Lord’s Day worship in the CPC sanctuary and online (links below). This Sunday we WILL be having fellowship, so plan on joining us for coffee and cookies as we return to our after service fellowship time.

Next Monday, March 23rd we will be having Games Up Here in Darley Hall. Join us for this incredible time of fellowship and tabletop games. All are welcome. No experience necessary.

Our Bible study next week, on Wednesday, March 25th is cancelled, because I’ll be out of town speaking for Youth Front at a continuing education event in Kansas City. I will, however, be back for our Palm Sunday service on Sunday, March 29th. Don’t forget that on that Sunday, we’ll join with the other churches in Lake City for a special community service held at the First Baptist Church Fellowship Hall.

Also, this coming Sunday, I’ll be posting a sign up sheet for our annual Sacred Meal of Remembrance, to be held on Maundy Thursday of Holy Week, April 2nd at 5:30pm. If you’d like to participate in this special gathering, please sign up on Sunday as space is limited and we’d like you all to have a chance to sign up for this liturgical meal before we make it available to the larger Lake City community.

That’s it for this week folks, here are your Zoom links for tomorrow night’s Bible Study and this Sunday’s order of worship:

Fourth Sunday of Advent

Hey Everyone,

I hope you’ve all had a blessed week. The past couple of days have been an incredible time of renewal and rest at the Luminosity Conference I attended in Orlando. I’m looking forward to being with you all in worship this Sunday. That said, due to the second leg of my flight being cancelled, I’ve been delayed in Denver International Airport for the past 8 hours. (Not to mention that they’ve delayed my rebooked flight several times now. )

Games Up Here Mini-Retreat
For those of you wondering if I’ll make it back for the Games Up Here Mini-Retreat taking place tomorrow, Friday, March 13th to Saturday, March 14th in the Annex–I’m planning on being there! For those wondering, we’ll begin at 7:00pm on Friday and 9:00am on Saturday and play games until participants are done. Given the renovations happening in Darley, however, we will be taking a lunch break from 11:45am to 1:15pm on Saturday so that AA can meet in the Annex. No registration required. Just show up and play some tabletop games with us!

Sunday Worship
This Sunday, March 15th is the Fourth Sunday of Lent, and we’ll be gathering for our Lord’s Day Worship Service at 10:00am in the CPC sanctuary and online. The Zoom links can be found below. Fellowship will NOT follow the service this week. We’re hoping to be back in business the following Sunday.

The Week Ahead
Next week, on Monday, March 16th, we’ll gather for our Games Up Here game night from 7:00pm to 9:00pm in the Annex. If you missed the Mini-Retreat, join us for this regularly scheduled event.

Next week we’ll also return to our study of the Beatitudes. Join us this coming Wednesday, March 18th from 5:00pm to 6:30pm as we explore the second set of four beatitudes in the Gospel of Matthew. This gathering will also be in the Annex until further notice.

That’s it for this week folks, here are your Zoom links and Sunday’s order of worship:

Third Sunday of Lent

Hey Folks,

I hope your Thursdays are going well and that this post finds you enjoying the blessedness of the Lenten season. This coming Sunday, March 8th, is not only the Third Sunday of Lent, but it’s also that special day when we turn our clocks forward to Daylight Savings Time (or what I like to call “Mess Up My Sleep For A Week Time.” Nonetheless, I just want to make sure you all know so that you don’t show up late for our Sunday’s Lord’s Day Worship Service at 10:00am in the CPC sanctuary and on Zoom (link below)

For those of you who were interested in joining in our Games Up Here Mini Retreat this weekend, we’ve moved it to the following weekend. The mini retreat will be held at the Annex from Friday, March 13th, starting at 7:00pm and will carry on to Saturday, March 14th. Saturday’s gaming will start at 9:00am and finish when participants are done playing games. If you’re joining us you are invited and encouraged to bring some drinks and snacks to share (non-messy ones) and we’ll be ordering pizza on Saturday night for dinner.

As many of you know, I’ll be traveling to a conference this coming week and departing directly after the Sunday morning worship service. Consequently there will be NO Games Up Here on Monday night, nor our weekly Bible Study on Wednesday. If you’ve missed the last two sessions in our Beatitudes Series, you can find them here.

Finally, don’t forget that we moved our monthly potluck to Sunday, March 15th directly after the service. The theme is still St. Patrick’s Day. That’s it for this week folks, here is your Zoom link for Sunday’s worship service and the order of worship:
