Second Sunday of Advent

Good morning CPC!

I hope you are healthy and safe on this sunny Saturday morning. I’ve got a number of important updates for you today, so please read the following carefully. First, it is with great sadness that I share with you that Adolph Assenheimer died of a stroke this past Sunday. Let us keep George and Patricia in our prayers. Let’s also keep in our prayers Bruce Heath and Pat Stone who are both hospitalized and facing serious health issues.

Tomorrow is the second Sunday of Advent, where we’ll light the Candle of Peace. Directly following the service we’ll have a very short Congregational Meeting, during which we’ll vote on our new slate of elders. Tomorrow’s preaching text comes from Philippians 1:3-11. You can find that text and the other lectionary passages here.

Although the first Sunday of the month is typically the day we celebrate the Lord’s Supper and hold our monthly potluck, the session has decided to postpone both one week. There will also be no fellowship after worship tomorrow, but please plan on staying for the congregational meeting.

Here are your announcements for the week!

First Sunday of Advent

Hey Everyone!

I hope you’re all well and in good health as I write you on this chilly Saturday evening. Unfortunately, my whole family has been sick this week. (We ended up having to cancel all our Thanksgiving plans and lay low.) Although we’re all resting and starting to feel a little better, we’re still feeling pretty rough. Consequently, we won’t be with you in the sanctuary for worship tomorrow. This is very disappointing for me, as I love the season of Advent and tomorrow you’ll light the first candle on the Advent wreath.

Our regular service will still happen as usual however. But we’re going to need everyone’s help tomorrow. I’ve constructed the service so it doesn’t need me to lead, but has a number of places for those present to plug in. Linda Downs will be delegating parts in the morning. We’ll still be broadcasting via Zoom and the link is below. Bible study will still resume this week, however only on Zoom. You can find the Order of Worship for this week at our website. Thanks for your patience and grace as we’re getting better.

Finally, I wanted to let you all know that Denny has asked for prayers for Pat. She was rushed by ambulance to St. Mary’s on Wednesday night and Denny joined her on Thursday. They believe she has some sort of infection, but until we know more, please keep Pat in your prayers.

Time Travel and Potlucks

Hey Everyone,

This Sunday marks yet another instance of time travel in the world. At some mysterious point during Saturday night our bodies will collectively travel back in time one whole hour (save a small group of outsiders in Gary, IN). As a result, you might have to adjust your clocks before you go to bed to make sure your at church on time. 😉

And, if you’re in town, you don’t want to miss this Sunday. No only will we be celebrating the Eucharist during the morning worship service, we’ll also be joining in extended fellowship at our first-Sunday-of-the-month potluck. That’s right, potlucks are back! So don’t forget to bring a dish to share this Sunday for our return to potlucks. To help with the meal, please contact Lynn Hudgeons, our potluck coordinator extraordinaire.

During worship I’ll be preaching from the book of Ruth. You can read the preaching text and the other lectionary texts here.
