Guid efternuin,
If you have no idea what that means, I’m simply saying “good afternoon” in Lowland Scots. That’s my way of reminding you that this Sunday, September 22nd is Scottish Communion Sunday. That’s right, this week we’ll not only end our summer by celebrating the Lord’s Supper together, we’ll also be welcoming back Duncan MacLeod, my piper friend from seminary. So dig out your tartan clothes, kilts, and other Scottish/Irish regalia (and maybe some earplugs) and join us for this special Sunday in the life of our congregation.
Don’t forget, if you’re into making shortbread or just like to bake, I’d invite you to make up a pan and bring them for our after-service fellowship time this special Scottish Communion Sunday. And for the record, we won’t really be having a tasting contest (unless you really want to). đ
Before I make my weekly ask for folks to cover trail hiker center shifts, I’d just like to say again how grateful I am for this summer’s hiker hosts. You’ve been such a blessing to the hikers and to me, personally in the midst of a very challenging summer. Thank you all. That said… now I need some help. đ
The Trail Hiker Center will close its doors on Monday evening at 5pm on September 30th. This means we have one more week of opportunities to show the love of Christ to hikers through the practice of hospitality. The Continental Divide Trail hikers are making their way through Lake City over the next few weeksâand they will be a tired bunch. If you’re looking to serve this community, I’ve got three ways you can help.
First, if you’d like to cook a shareable meal and drop it off at the hiker center, please let me know (so we don’t get 20 casseroles on Monday).
Next, this week, we will also need to fill a number of open hosting shifts. These openings can be viewed on Sunday morning on the cork board in Darley Hall.
Finally, we also need noon shuttle drivers through September the 30th. The sign up sheet for that is also on the cork board in Darley Hall.
Here are your announcements for the week ahead:
Games Up Here
Join us for games this Monday, September 23rd from 7:00pm to 9:00pm in the Presbyterian Annex/Trail Hiker Center.
Wednesday Bible StudyÂ
Join us this Wednesday, September 25th from 5:00pm until 6:30pm in the Presbyterian Annex/Trail Hiker Center for our FINAL session on Christian denominations. This week I’ll be offering a sweeping overview of the last two thousand years of church history, which will take us to the emergence of the non-denominational movement.
