Hey Everyone!

I hope your Friday is off to a great start. It’s going to be a beautiful day here in Lake City and we wish you were all here to bask in the glory of God’s creation. This week begins the Fifth Sunday of Easter. During the Sunday Worship service we’ll be celebrating the Eucharist, so please bring your communion elements to the Zoom gathering if you’re planning on joining us online. If you’re joining us in person in the CPC sanctuary, and you don’t typically come to worship in person, I’d ask you to let me know via email (lakecityjason@gmail.com). If you’ve been somewhat of a regular in the sanctuary, no need to let me know. I’ll factor you in. 😉

This week’s preaching text is 1 John 4:7-21 and the title of my sermon is “All We Need is…” You can read the preaching text and the other lectionary readings here. We will be having a time of fellowship directly after the service, so please consider staying for some coffee and cookies, if you feel comfortable.

Speaking of comfort, I know that many of you felt uncomfortable going to the CPC website because you received an alert that our certificates weren’t valid. I’m happy to inform you that Jon Eidson cleared all of that up and we’re back in business as usual. Thanks Jon for keeping us certified. 🙂

Hey Everyone!

I hope you’re all well on this sunny Thursday afternoon. We’re about to enter the fourth week of Easter, which we’ll celebrate by having a fellowship time after the service in Darley Hall (we’ll celebrate the fifth Sunday in the same way). 😉 This Sunday, the preaching text is 1 John 3:16-24. Wow… what a blessed couple weeks it’s been as we celebrated Palm Sunday, held my installation, observed Holy Week, and gathered together with other Christians in Lake City for our Community Easter Service of the Resurrection. This Sunday, April 11th begins the second week of Eastertide and we’ll be celebrating communion, so please remember to prepare your communion elements if you’re joining us via Zoom (link below).

If you’re planning on attending the service in person, I’d ask that you let me know via phone or email by Saturday night, so that I can prepare the Lord’s Supper for the service. This Sunday we’ll be exploring the the text from 1 John 1:1-2:2. You can read it and the other lectionary texts for the week here.

There will be games on Monday night, but we will not be having Bible Study this week, as I’m still on study leave (which is going well). The elders will also be gathering on Wednesday, for our April Session meeting, so if there is something you’d like to share with them, please do so soon. March Session
The CPC Session meets this week on Wednesday, April 14th from 10am to 12pm. If you’d like to touch base with an elder, please do so before Wednesday.

There is no Bible study this week, but we will return to our Wednesday Bible Study on April 21st to explore Lamentations.

Blessed Good Friday to all. I hope this post finds you all in thoughtful dispositions as we make our final trek toward Easter morning, when we will finally proclaim, “Christ is Risen!”

Today, there are three Good Friday opportunities to help you observe this holy day. This Sunday we’re back in the Armory for our Lake City Churches’ Community Easter Service (but with a limited capacity of 100). If you’d prefer to remain at home for the service, it will be broadcasted through Zoom (link below) and through Facebook. Beyond our Holy Week gatherings, in the week ahead, there are a few changes to our regular schedule.

First, for most of the two weeks following Easter, I will be on study leave (starting April 7th). As many of you know, I’m working with two other authors to revise a book on intergenerational Christian formation. I’ll still be in Lake City (should you need anything), but during this period, there will be NO Bible Study. We will return to our weekly Wednesday Bible Study on April 21st.

There will be Games Up Here this week, however, so feel free to join us for that on Monday night, April 5th at 7pm. And, even though I’ll be on study leave, I’ll still be leading and preaching in our Sunday Lord’s Day Worship Services.
