Fourth Sunday of Advent

Hey Everyone,

I hope you are all well on this chilly Tuesday evening. Yes, my weekly post is coming much sooner than you were expecting. As we move through the third week of Advent, I wanted to make sure you have the O Antiphons ornaments. You can find them below.

Starting tomorrow, December 17th, Christians around the globe will celebrate the “O Antiphons.” The O Antiphons are just one more way to bring focus on the season of Advent through the names of the messiah found in Isaiah. Consider coloring the O Antiphons and reading the provided scriptures each day until Christmas Eve. You can find the printable ornaments at the bottom of this post and also right HERE!

Tomorrow night, December 17th at 5:00pm, we’ll gather for our third session of our series on Biblical canonization. Join us in Darley Hall as we explore canonization in the early church period of church history. If you’re looking for previous session for this series, you can find them here: https://www.youtube.com/@communitypresbyterianchurc6145

Join us this Sunday, December 21st at 10:00am for our Lord’s Day Worship and the Fourth Sunday of Advent. This coming Sunday, we’ll light the final candle on our Advent–the Candle of Love.

Don’t forget to let your friends and neighbor know that we will be gathering outside in the CPC yard at 5:30pm on Wednesday, December 24th for our annual Christmas Eve Service of Scripture and Song. The service will last around 30 minutes.

One final bit of news to share. My alma mater, Princeton Theological Seminary, got wind of our work with the Lake City Trail Hiker Center and decided to write up an alumni article on me. You can read the story here: https://ptsem.edu/about/the-quad/news/from-princeton-seminary-to-the-continental-divide-how-alumnus-rev-dr-jason-santos-built-a-trailside-haven-for-thru-hikers/

Third Sunday of Advent

Hey Everyone!

Advent greetings to all on this sunny Thursday morning in Lake City. I hope you are all experiencing the blessings of this holy season. It’s difficult to believe that Christmas is only two weeks away. With only two more Sundays in Advent, the Christmas season will soon be upon us.

This Sunday, December 14th is the Third Sunday of Advent, and we’ll be lighting the Candle of Joy as we reflect upon Mary’s song–The Magnificat. Join us at 10:00am for our Lord’s Day worship service and stay for a time of fellowship with coffee and cookies directly following.

Don’t forget that during the season of Advent, we’re running a Food Drive for the local food bank. Please place all items under the Christmas Tree in the CPC sanctuary. The drive will end on Christmas Eve.

Do you like singing Christmas songs by flashlight to strangers outside in really cold weather? If you do, then I’ve got an event for you. 😉 If you like caroling, the churches of Lake City are gathering together to usher in some Christmas cheer through some old fashioned Christmas caroling. Carolers will gather this Sunday, December 14th at 5:30pm at the First Baptist Church’s fellowship hall. A time of fellowship will follow in the FBC fellowship hall. All are welcome to bring cookies or other Christmas snacks to share.

We’ve got one more week of games before our Christmas break. Come play some tabletop games with us this Monday, December 15th from 7:00pm to 9:00pm in Darley Hall. No experience necessary. All are welcome.

We’ll gather for the third session of our new Bible Study series: How Did We Get The Bible? this Wednesday, December 17th at 5:00pm. This week, we’ll be looking at the canonization of the Scriptures in the Early Church. If you’d like to catch up on the previous sessions, you can find them on our YouTube channel here: https://www.youtube.com/@communitypresbyterianchurc6145

Finally, just a reminder that we’ll be hosting our community wide Christmas Eve Service on Wednesday, December 24th at 5:30pm in the church yard. All are welcome to join us for this holy gathering.

That’s it for this week folks. Here are your links and the order of worship for this Sunday’s service and our weekly Bible Study.
