The Trail Hiker Meals are starting!

Hey Everyone,

I hope everyone is well and rested from all the festivities of this past weekend. What a blessing it was to gather with folks from all over the country and celebrate the incredible freedom we have in the United States. It feels like the summer season has finally arrived, and with it some exciting places for ministry and service.

This Sunday, July 10th, we’re kicking off the Lake City Trail Hiker Meal. This week our faith community will be hosting the hiker dinner. At this very moment I’m slow roasting over 30 pounds of marinated pork for the succulent Vietnamese sandwich know as a Bánh mì. If you’ve never had one, you don’t want to miss it. Details for the hiker meal can be found below in the Announcements.

This Sunday we’re also moving the Sunday morning Worship service outside! The service will still be at 10:00am, but we’ll be in the church yard. We’ve got lots of chairs, but if you prefer to bring your own, please do so. We’re planning on being outside during the months of July and August. If there is ever a Sunday where rain is threatening, please check our website for last minute updates. Should it be raining, however, we will meet in the CPC sanctuary and use Darley Hall as an overflow. Finally, I’m thrilled to share that his year we’ll be using a microphone and speaker for the service, which should help with the traffic noise.

If you’re joining us Sunday morning via Zoom, please know that there will be no interaction between the Zoom participants and Jason during our outside broadcasts. You will be automatically let in once the service begins.

This Sunday we continue on with our Summer Series–This is My Story, This is Our Song. This week we’ll be delving into one of the great hymns of all times: Amazing Grace. If you’d like to read the lectionary texts before the service, they can be found at the bottom of the online Order of Worship bulletin.

Summer Community Worship Service

Hey CPC,

I hope you are all well and dry on this rainy Sunday morning in Lake City. In a couple of hours we’ll be gathering on the soccer field across from the medical center on Henson Street. The Summer Community Worship Service will begin at 10am. As many of you already know, I’ll be the preacher this morning and I’ll be continuing in our examination of the most popular hymns of our times. This morning I’ll be exploring the Battle Hymn of the Republic, as we consider what it means to be the Glory of the Coming of the Lord.

Please bring your own chairs and maybe some rain gear in case it does rain. I’ve been told we’ve never cancelled the service, so we’re marching on. 😉 Due to possibility of rain, I can’t guarantee that the whole service will be completely broadcasted on Zoom, but I will try my best to stream the whole service. Please use this link if you’re going to try and join us: https://us02web.zoom.us/j/82302303157?pwd=neAv2Ywp22AU0udNZ-y11AjO07tRcW.1

I’ll be sending another email out later with our weekly announcements and Zoom links, but for now, know that there are no 4th of July activities at the church. There will be no games offered tomorrow night, but we will have both the Tuesday 9:00am and the Wednesday 5:00pm Bible studies offered as normal.

Finally, if you’re joining us online, here’s the downloadable order of worship:

That’s it for this morning… Hopefully we’ll see you soon.

Finally, this Sunday is not only Father’s Day, but it’s also our monthly potluck. In honor of the fathers, I’m breaking out our 14-pound cured Spanish ham. If you’d like to theme your potluck offering, think “Spanish tapas” or finger food type hors d’oeuvres. Or bring whatever you’d like… it’s all good. 🙂

Pentecost Sunday

Hey Everyone!

I can’t believe it’s June already. The weather is getting warm and it feels like I’m seeing new people everyday. This week we opened up our hiker center and have already seen a handful of hikers find refuge in our Annex. What a blessing it is to be able to offer hospitality to them and I can’t wait to see many of you get involved in this ministry this summer.

And, if the opening of the hiker center wasn’t enough, this Sunday is Pentecost Sunday–when we celebrate the advent of the Holy Spirit dwelling within us. Sunday I’ll be preaching on the familiar Acts 2:1-21 text. You can find it and the rest of the lectionary texts here.

Don’t forget that tomorrow morning, Saturday, June 4th is our second all church work day. Tomorrow will be largely tidying up the property, some light weeding, raking up leaves, and cleaning out a couple of closets. Please consider bringing some work gloves and brooms and/or rakes with you. Join us from 9am until 12pm as we make our grounds even more beautiful.

Just a reminder… although we traditionally have communion on the first Sunday of the month, we’re pushing it a few weeks to celebrate on June 19th during our summer kick-off.
