Hey Folks,
I hope this post finds you all well on this mid-August Saturday evening. The summer is flying by and before we know it, our 150th Anniversary Season of Celebration will be over and our Summer Sermon Series will come to an end. All of this will culminate in our final service of celebration on Sunday, August 30th. Until there there is plenty going on.
Sunday’s Lord’s Day Worship Service
I’m looking forward to seeing many of you at our Lord’s Day Worship Service tomorrow morning, Sunday, August 16th at 10:00am. My gut is that with our recent worship participation and the cooling of the weather, that we’ll be inside the sanctuary tomorrow morning. We’ll just have to wait and see what the morning holds. Fellowship in Darley Hall will commence directly after the worship service. Tomorrow morning we continue on in our series–Six Great Ends of the Church–with the fourth great end: the Preservation of the Truth.
Sixth Trail Hiker Meal
Tomorrow night, Sunday, August 16th is our Sixth Trail Hiker Dinner and tomorrow we’re serving up a dish from my own childhood–SPAM Garlic Fried Rice. That’s right, we’re going to be serving up some chopped up SPAM, with a Filipino garlic fried rice, scrambled eggs, and sweet green peas, all topped with freshly chopped scallions. The theme is Asian, Filipino, Hawaiian, so use your imagination, or make whatever your heart desires. Remember, it’s not about what you bring, but that you’re there to celebration another wonderful evening of ministry and community.
As usual, we still need hosts, shuttle drivers, and laundry angels as the summer crowd shifts and changes. Please consider how you might service the Trail Hiker Center this season.
This Coming Week
This coming week, we have all our regular programming. Monday night, August 17th, we’ll gather for Games Up Here in the Annex/Trail Hiker Center from 7:00pm to 9:00pm. Wednesday night, August 19th, we’ll continue on with our weekly Bible study series–Stuff Every Christian Should Know. Join us at 5:00pm in the Annex/Trail Hiker Center.
Darley Mountain Pilgrimage
Our 150th Anniversary Season of Celebration event for next week is a community pilgrimage to Darley Mountain. Join us at 9:00am at CPC to caravan to Engineer Pass. From there we’ll carry on by foot until we summit (or get as far as we get) Darley Mountain. This event is weather contingent and does require the ability to hike for a couple of hours in higher elevations.

For those who didn’t know, Darley Mountain is a 13,260 ft. mountain summit located on the border of Hinsdale County and Ouray County in the Uncompahgre Wilderness. The mountain was officially named after George Marshal Darley, the first minister of the First Presbyterian Church of Lake City in 1992. A lovely painting of Darley Mountain, by our own Mary Wainwright, can be viewed in the library side of Darley Fellowship Hall.
That’s it for this week folks. Hope to see you all soon. Here are your links for the week ahead.
