Fourth Sunday of Ordinal Time

Hey Everyone,

I hope you’re all well on this hazy Wednesday morning. I’m writing you today during my short morning break from the Presbyterian Church (USA)’s 227th General Assembly, where I’m serving as a Teaching Elder Commissioner for the Presbytery of Western Colorado. I’ve been in Zoom meetings for almost twelve hours for both of the past two days, and this day will be no different.

Tonight’s Bible Study is CANCELLED
Given the slow progress in my GA committee–Reformed Identity in the United States–I will unfortunately need to CANCEL our Bible Study for tonight, Wednesday, June 24th. Next week, we will also NOT meet for our Wednesday Bible Study, as I’ll still be in Milwaukee at the in-person portion of the General Assembly. Consequently, I’ll teach on the Parables of Jesus on Wednesday, July 8th as we resume our Bible study for the summer.

Sunday Worship Service
This Sunday, June 28th, our community of faith will gather at 10:00am for our Lord’s Day Worship Service in the CPC yard. This Sunday, our summer staff for the Trail Hiker Center, Chloe Pittard, will be leading worship and preaching. If you’re unable to be with us in-person, please join us via our Zoom broadcast. The link for the broadcast and the order of worship bulletin can be found below. A time of fellowship with cookies and coffee will follow morning worship service in Darley Hall.

Trail Hiker Center
We’re nearing 100 hikers for the month of June and we need all the help we can get. Consider participating in our Trail Hiker Center ministry by signing up for a volunteer opportunity on the Summer Service cork board in Darley Hall. If you’d like to be a Shuttle Angel, please fill out the Shuttle Driver Volunteer form and submit it to Jason with a copy of your driver’s license and your proof of insurance. If you can’t make copies a photo will suffice for both.

The Coming Week
Join us for Games Up Here game night on Monday, June 29th from 7:00pm to 9:00pm in the Annex/Trail Hiker Center. And, don’t forget, for the next two weeks, there will be no weekly Bible study, while I’m at the General Assembly.

Community Worship Service
Finally, don’t forget that on Sunday, July 5th, we will be joining with the other local churches for our Summer Community Worship Service. We’ll meet at 10:00am in the soccer field (across from the medical center). This service is a BYOC (bring your own chair) gathering.

That’s it for this week folks. Below you will find your link and the order of worship for the Fourth Sunday of Ordinal Time.

Third Sunday of Ordinal Time

Hey Everyone!

I hope you’re all well and in joyful spirits. We had a wonderful time celebrating the 150th anniversary of the chartering of First Presbyterian Church last night. If you were unable to make it, fret not–we’ll continue on with our 150th celebrations throughout the summer, and particularly during the week of July 19th through July 26th.

I’m excited to share that we’ve had over 80 hikers this season already and there might be one more bubble making its way to us this coming week. Don’t forget that we’re having our 2026 Trail Hiker Center Orientation tomorrow night, Saturday, June 20th at 6:30pm in the Annex/Trail Hiker Center. If you’re planning on doing any hosting, shuttling, laundry, meals, or anything related to the Trail Hiker Center, we’re asking that you join us. If you’re unable be present for the orientation tomorrow night, it will be available on our YouTube channel. If you’re thinking about shuttling this summer, you will be required to attend or confirm that you have watched the orientation video online. Looking forward to seeing you tomorrow.

This Sunday, June 21st is the Third Sunday of Ordinal Time and our first outdoor worship service of the summer. The service will start at 10:00am as usual, but in the CPC yard instead of the sanctuary. If you’re planning on being part of the worship set up team, then we’re asking that you be at the church on Sunday morning by 9:00am. If the weather is looking bad, check our website (www.lakecitypresbyterian.org) for an update.

Next week, all the normal things are happening. Games in the THC on Monday, June 22nd from 7:00pm to 9:00pm and our weekly Bible Study on Wednesday, June 24th in the THC from 5:00pm to 6:30pm. This week, we’ll be covering over 30 parables in less than 90 minutes!

Finally, don’t forget that Chloe Pittard is serving as our Trail Hiker Center Summer Staff this season. If you have questions about hosting, shuttling, being a laundry angel or anything else related to the THC, please reach out to her.

That’s it for this week folks. Normal links and stuff below.

150th Anniversary Chartering Service

Hey Everyone,

It’s hard to believe it’s finally here. One hundred and fifty years ago, on June 18, 1976 (likely somewhere on the grounds of the Community Presbyterian Church), a group of pioneering saints gathered together to charter the First Presbyterian Church of Lake City, Colorado.

Tonight, Thursday, June 18th, 2026, we will celebrate 150 years of God’s faithfulness in Lake City at our 150th Anniversary Chartering Service. Join us at 7:00pm in the CPC sanctuary for this special service. A reception with sparkling drinks and desserts will follow.

If you’d like to join us via Zoom, please use the following link and follow along with the online order of worship, both which can be found below.

Second Sunday of Ordinal Time

Hey Everyone,

I hope this post finds you all well and in summertime spirits. We’ve got a number of important gatherings happening in the next week, so please read carefully.

First, this coming Saturday, June 13th, we’re having our Church-Clean-Up-Day! The painters are 99% done and it’s time to finish off our preparation. We’ll be tidying up the property as we get ready to celebrate the 150th anniversary of the chartering of our church on June 18th. Please join us this Saturday from 9:00am to 11:00am as we clean up the property both inside and outside out.

With that in mind, don’t forget to SAVE-THE-DATE for our 150th Anniversary Service at 7:00pm on Thursday, June 18th–the day the First Presbyterian Church of Lake City was chartered. Join us in the CPC sanctuary for this special service of thanksgiving.

This coming Sunday, June 14th is the Second Sunday of Ordinal time and probably the last Sunday Worship Service in the sanctuary this summer. So, join us at 10:00am in the sanctuary for our Lord’s Day Worship Service, followed by a time of fellowship in our newly renovated Darley Hall.

This coming week all of our regular gatherings are happening, so plan on joining us for games and our weekly Bible Study. Games Up Here will meet in the Annex/Trail Hiker Center from 7:00pm to 9:00pm this Monday, June 15th and our weekly Bible study will meet at 5:00pm in the Annex/Trail Hiker Center on Wednesday, June 17th.

I’m thrilled to share that we had 40 hikers in our first week of the hiker ministry and we have confirmed reports that there is a bubble coming our way. This coming week, starting this Sunday, June 14th, we are asking that host cover their shifts. If you don’t have a set shift, you should email, text, or talk to Jason. If you’d like to volunteer but not have a set shift, we absolutely need your help to. Just sign up for a shift in an open slot when the clipboard comes by on Sunday morning.

We are planning a Trail Hiker Center Orientation meeting for Saturday, June 20th at 7:00pm in the Trail Hiker Center. This one hour meeting will cover everything you need to know about hosting, shuttling, and offering laundry services for this season. For those unable to make it, it will be posted on our YouTube channel.

That’s it for this week. Here are your Zoom links for the week and the order of worship for this Sunday’s service:

First Sunday of Ordinal Time

Hey CPC,

I hope you are all well and ready for the summer hiker ministry to start, because it’s undoubtedly hereI’m excited to share that we’ve had 25 thru-hikers this week! This is typically what we draw for the whole month of June. They’ve also let us know that there are a lot of CDT hiker behind them and that most are planning on coming to Lake City.

To this end, we are starting our Trail Hiker Center Hosting tomorrow, Sunday, June 7th. I know that is a little short notice for all of you, so this is a self-selected option for hosting if it works with your schedule. If you can’t host this week, please plan on starting the following week. If you’ve already signed up for a shift, you’ll be able to serve in that time slot. If you haven’t, don’t fret, we’ll have our trusty clipboard available for you tomorrow during the announcements. Despite the number of hikers we’re seeing, we’ll still hold off on starting the Trail Hiker Shuttle until we get all the paperwork in and have our host/driver orientation.

I’d also like to share that this season, we’re facing yet another crisis of laundry services in town. The new owner of the Lake Fork RV Park on Hensen Street will be only offering five camping sites that include a shower, but no laundry services or access. This calls upon us as a community of faith to ask how we will address this challenges. Over half the hikers who have come to the Lake City stayed at the Lake Fork RV Park. Without less expensive places to lodge that include a shower and a load of laundry, hikers are faced with a difficult decision. I’d invite you to join me in prayer as we consider how to tackle this important issue. I’ll be addressing this issue in more detail during the announcements tomorrow.

Speaking of which, I hope to see you tomorrow, Sunday, June 7th, at 10:00am in the CPC sanctuary for our Lord’s Day Worship Service (also on Zoom). Tomorrow, is the First Sunday of Ordinal Time and our paraments will turn and remain green until next November. We’ll also be celebrating the Lord’s Supper tomorrow, so if you are joining us via Zoom, please bring your communion elements to the broadcast. For those here in Lake City, a time of fellowship will follow directly after the service in Darley Fellowship Hall with cookies and coffee.

This coming week, all of our regular programming is underway, so plan on joining us for games and our weekly Bible Study. Games Up Here will meet in the Annex/Trail Hiker Center from 7:00pm to 9:00pm this Monday, June 8th.Our weekly Bible study will meet at 5:00pm in the Annex/Trail Hiker Center on Wednesday, June 10th. This week, in the 7th session of Stuff Every Christian Should Know, we’re going to explore the Gospels and more specifically, their account of Jesus’ birth. Both of these weekly gatherings will continue to meet in the Annex/Trail Hiker Center for the remainder of the season.

This coming Saturday, June 13th, we’re having our Church-Clean-Up-Day and we’re inviting you to help us finish off the church for the 150th. We’ll be picking up sticks, weeding, trimming, cleaning out closets, planting flowers, and more. Consider joining us on Saturday from 9:00am to 11:00am as we finish our preparation for a summer of celebration.

Finally, don’t forget to SAVE-THE-DATE for our 150th Anniversary Service at 7:00pm on Thursday, June 18th. It was on this day that the First Presbyterian Church of Lake City was chartered. Although the building of the sanctuary wasn’t completed until November of the same year, this faith community finds its official origins on that day. Please plan on joining us for a special service on that evening.

That’s it for this week. Here are your Zoom links for the week and the order of worship for this Sunday’s service:
