Hey CPC,
I hope you are all well and ready for the summer hiker ministry to start, because it’s undoubtedly here. I’m excited to share that we’ve had 25 thru-hikers this week! This is typically what we draw for the whole month of June. They’ve also let us know that there are a lot of CDT hiker behind them and that most are planning on coming to Lake City.
To this end, we are starting our Trail Hiker Center Hosting tomorrow, Sunday, June 7th. I know that is a little short notice for all of you, so this is a self-selected option for hosting if it works with your schedule. If you can’t host this week, please plan on starting the following week. If you’ve already signed up for a shift, you’ll be able to serve in that time slot. If you haven’t, don’t fret, we’ll have our trusty clipboard available for you tomorrow during the announcements. Despite the number of hikers we’re seeing, we’ll still hold off on starting the Trail Hiker Shuttle until we get all the paperwork in and have our host/driver orientation.
I’d also like to share that this season, we’re facing yet another crisis of laundry services in town. The new owner of the Lake Fork RV Park on Hensen Street will be only offering five camping sites that include a shower, but no laundry services or access. This calls upon us as a community of faith to ask how we will address this challenges. Over half the hikers who have come to the Lake City stayed at the Lake Fork RV Park. Without less expensive places to lodge that include a shower and a load of laundry, hikers are faced with a difficult decision. I’d invite you to join me in prayer as we consider how to tackle this important issue. I’ll be addressing this issue in more detail during the announcements tomorrow.
Speaking of which, I hope to see you tomorrow, Sunday, June 7th, at 10:00am in the CPC sanctuary for our Lord’s Day Worship Service (also on Zoom). Tomorrow, is the First Sunday of Ordinal Time and our paraments will turn and remain green until next November. We’ll also be celebrating the Lord’s Supper tomorrow, so if you are joining us via Zoom, please bring your communion elements to the broadcast. For those here in Lake City, a time of fellowship will follow directly after the service in Darley Fellowship Hall with cookies and coffee.
This coming week, all of our regular programming is underway, so plan on joining us for games and our weekly Bible Study. Games Up Here will meet in the Annex/Trail Hiker Center from 7:00pm to 9:00pm this Monday, June 8th.Our weekly Bible study will meet at 5:00pm in the Annex/Trail Hiker Center on Wednesday, June 10th. This week, in the 7th session of Stuff Every Christian Should Know, we’re going to explore the Gospels and more specifically, their account of Jesus’ birth. Both of these weekly gatherings will continue to meet in the Annex/Trail Hiker Center for the remainder of the season.
This coming Saturday, June 13th, we’re having our Church-Clean-Up-Day and we’re inviting you to help us finish off the church for the 150th. We’ll be picking up sticks, weeding, trimming, cleaning out closets, planting flowers, and more. Consider joining us on Saturday from 9:00am to 11:00am as we finish our preparation for a summer of celebration.
Finally, don’t forget to SAVE-THE-DATE for our 150th Anniversary Service at 7:00pm on Thursday, June 18th. It was on this day that the First Presbyterian Church of Lake City was chartered. Although the building of the sanctuary wasn’t completed until November of the same year, this faith community finds its official origins on that day. Please plan on joining us for a special service on that evening.
That’s it for this week. Here are your Zoom links for the week and the order of worship for this Sunday’s service:
