I hope everyone is well and in good spirits. It’s hard to believe that we’re only two weeks away from the start of a new liturgical season. On November 28th, we’ll celebrate the first Sunday of Advent and thus begin our trek towards Christmas. For those interested, our Jesse tree devotional will be available starting November 21st in Darley and online (for download). Below you’ll find the announcements for the week and your Zoom links.

Lake City Churches Thanksgiving Test-Kitchen
Interested in trying out a new Thanksgiving recipe or showing off an old one? Join us on Sunday, November 21st at 6pm at the Baptist Fellowship Hall for an ecumenical faith community Thanksgiving-themed potluck. 

Congregational Meeting
The CPC Session is calling for a congregational meeting on Sunday, December 5th to vote on our new slate of elders and Jason’s Terms of Call. Join us directly after the worship service (in person and on Zoom).

Hey Everyone,

This Sunday marks yet another instance of time travel in the world. At some mysterious point during Saturday night our bodies will collectively travel back in time one whole hour (save a small group of outsiders in Gary, IN). As a result, you might have to adjust your clocks before you go to bed to make sure your at church on time. 😉

And, if you’re in town, you don’t want to miss this Sunday. No only will we be celebrating the Eucharist during the morning worship service, we’ll also be joining in extended fellowship at our first-Sunday-of-the-month potluck. That’s right, potlucks are back! So don’t forget to bring a dish to share this Sunday for our return to potlucks. To help with the meal, please contact Lynn Hudgeons, our potluck coordinator extraordinaire.

That’s right CPC, starting November 7th… POTLUCK SUNDAYS returns to the first Sundays of every month. So break out your best breakfast or brunch recipe and join our community for fellowship after the worship service.

This Sunday, we’ll still have a coffee and cookie fellowship, but our cookie supply is looking a little bleak. Consider baking a dozen or two of your favorite cookies for our perpetual cookie drive.

The remainder of the weeks, we’ll still have coffee and cookie fellowship. And, don’t forget, we’re running low on cookies. Please consider baking a couple dozen and putting them in the Darley freezer in a plastic bag.

Hey CPC,

I hope you are all well this evening. I’m writing you tonight from Houston, TX because I’m officiating Alan Moore’s funeral tomorrow afternoon. If you’d like to view the funeral service via Zoom, you can find that link below.

As many of you know, I’ll be taking two weeks off after I return from Houston on Sunday. Consequently, this post will serve as your portal to all of the services and orders of worship for the next couple of weeks. The Sunday worship service will remain at 10:00am in the sanctuary through (and including) Sunday, October 17th.

This coming Sunday, your guest preacher will be Dr. John Roose and the following week the guest preacher will be Lyn Lampert. The orders of worship for those two services and the Sunday I return can be located at the bottom of this post. Beyond the services, our normal gatherings (games and Bible study) for the next two weeks are cancelled.

All of the lectionary texts for the next three weeks can be found each week at this site. Beyond those bits of information, please know that if a pastoral emergency comes up, you can reach me via text or email and I’ll contact to you asap.

Hey All,

I hope you’re all well on this beautiful autumn morning. I also hope you can get out today and enjoy the glory of God’s creation. This week is a little different week in the life of our community, so make sure you note the changes.

For starters, while I’m working with the church in Montrose, our very own Rev. Dan Smith will be preaching in our Sunday worship service tomorrow. His preaching text comes from Esther 7:1-6, 9-10; 9:20-22. You can read that text and the other lectionary passages here. The service will be inside in the sanctuary at 10:00am.

Moving Indoors
This will be our last week outside. Starting Sunday, September 26th, we’ll be moving our worship service back into the CPC sanctuary. Additionally, for the next three weeks we’ll have guest preachers in the pulpit (Dan Smith, John Roose, and Lyn Lampert, respectively) because Jason will be away. Next week, he’ll be working with the First Presbyterian Church in Montrose and the two subsequent weeks, he’ll be taking vacation. Jason will return to our Sunday worship on October 17th.

Hey Everyone!

I hope you are well on this sunny afternoon here in Lake City. The weather is getting cooler and the shadows longer… yes, it’s sad to say, but the summer is almost over. 🙁 Tomorrow we’ll gather outside for worship in the CPC yard at 10am and we’ll also be broadcasting on Zoom. If you’d like to help set up for the service, please swing by the church at 9:00am.

Tomorrow we’ll be exploring the ever-challenging text in the book of James about our tongues and how we use them (James 3:1-12). You can read the preaching passage and the other lectionary texts here.

For those weren’t aware, we wanted to make sure you knew that Olin Tunnel died on Wednesday, September 8th in Gunnison. Please remember Jessica in your prayers today as she heads back to Texas. Olin’s funeral is currently planed for Saturday, September 18th.

Hey CPC!

I hope you’re all well on this beautiful Saturday afternoon. I don’t know about you, but I can’t believe it… this will be the Harrises’ last Sunday with us. 🙁

Tomorrow morning, Sunday, September 5, we’ll gather for Worship at 10:00 in the CPC yard. During the service, we’ll take the opportunity to express our gratitude for the Harrises’ years of service and friendship and to send them off with our love and prayers. Following tomorrow’s worship service, we’ll hold a reception for the Harrises outside on the columbarium patio.

During worship, we’ll be celebrating the Eucharist. If you’re joining us in person on the lawn, the communion elements will be brought to you (with COVID precautions). I hope this post finds you all well and in good spirits. I can’t believe we’re almost to the end of August. Without a doubt things are starting to slow down. Several of our summer activities and gathers are coming to end this week, so make sure you check out the announcements.

Last week, we were blessed to be able to gather with Grace Fellowship for our annual Gold Hill Sunday. It was a wonderful service and we are very grateful for John Bonner and company for serving our communities with incredible breakfast burritos.

This Sunday, August 29th we’ll gather in the CPC sanctuary and on Zoom. The preaching text is from Deuteronomy 4:1-2, 6-9. You can find that passage and the other lectionary texts here.
